When life takes a road
you hadn't planned
put up your fists
and make a stand.
Fight against odds,
fight for your rights
because today will be
a fight for your life.

In || the || Beginning
Throughout history there have been many accounts of the supernatural and unusual beings in cultures all over the world in every time period. Although theories, ideas, stories, and names have been changed over time, the fact still remains that these "stories" actually existed in secrecy. Little did these people, who believed that they had made these stories up or were accused of being crazy for even thinking such things to be possible, know that were indeed correct in most of their assumptions, only spinning a few facts here and there due to lack of information. All around the world, inhuman "creatures" had been coming into existence, possessing unnatural characteristics that seemed strange to regular society, making them get shunned or hide themselves from the public eye and civilization in whole, making them develop a little world all of their own.
Where did these species start? Well each one has a different story. First of all, you should know the only types of beings that actually do exist so that they aren't mixed with fiction. Ghosts, the walking dead, have been around the longest. Followed by Angels and Demons, both appearing around the same time. Next were the Shapeshifters and then the Lycans, commonly mistaken for werewolves which do not exist in reality. During the time the Lycans had been forming into their own group, Vampires showed up in the picture. Elves were after them and then Mages, the most recent of the groups.

Ghosts are none other than someone who has died in an unusual manor or left an unfinished life behind. These are usually young people, children and teenagers, who still were supposed to have plenty of time left on the planet, but no longer do. Normally someone who becomes a ghost was a victim of murder, suicide, or an accident. If the death was natural, then their time was finished and they have no reason to wander the earth as a lost soul. Sadly, most of the time it is impossible for a ghost to find their way back into the life stream. Those who have made it moved on too quickly to leave any recordings on how, so the only way to know is for it to actually happen to the soul.
Angels in reality originated as nothing more than regular humans evolving in a pattern that was irregular to that of the rest. These people were so religious, the type of religion not being a factor, that they began to become a part of what they cherished so much. Since the most common world religion in time became Christianity, this group of beings took on the name of "angels" seeing as they were the only people who could make contact with their god as well as possess other heavenly powers, such as healing, magic of light, and immortality. There is the sub-division of Fallen Angels, but very few actually roam around freely. Most are brought back to purgatory, and depending on the crime committed, killed and then sent to Hell.
Demons, developing strangely close to the same time as Angels, were also a mutation in human evolution. These people had been created from one family of criminals in Haiti, the Bacquie family. They were a family of "Devils" who committed many heinous crimes on the island without any remorse. They were different from the other people. Each of them were stronger, faster, and had much more stamina. It was believed that they were gods from the underworld, which was why they were to be hanged. In order to save themselves, the family disbanded and traveled to different areas of the globe to rebuild the family. However, due to the split, each branch of the family developed different demonic powers, bringing in variations.
Shapeshifters were actually a branch of the demon family that had gone to Africa, living in the wild of the jungles where they couldn't be found. Unfortunately they hadn't counted on there being so many tribes in the rain forest, so they decided to lay low, their strength and speed declining over time. However, the group that had gone developed a new ability of being able to shapeshift into the animals around them, making them able to hide and attack villages without suspicion. It is very uncommon to find a shapeshifter who can turn into something other than an animal or be able to change the things around them rather than themselves, but they do exist.
Lycans are debated as to whether they should be their own species or not since they are simply a form of Shapeshifter devoted to turning themselves into large dogs or wolves once they broke away from the rest and moved further north out of Africa and into the Himalayas. This is where the common mistake with Werewolves comes in. Werewolves need a full moon in order to change, where as Lycans can change at any time based on factors such as health and emotions. They were fabled as giant wolves carrying man's clothes and labeled half man, half beast by the first human sitings of the creatures, which was the only reason they were separated from the Shapeshifter group who had been fabled as pure beasts.
Vampires are the only species yet to be explained. For all anyone knows, they just showed up in Italy one day with no clues as to where they came from. However, most of the things written about vampires are not true. Stories about sunlight, crosses, garlic, stakes through the heart, etc. are all false. The sun only gives them headaches, and over time some have become even immune to that. There has only ever been three families of Vampire Hunters, DeCredico, Dragonetti, and Stanco, who are the only humans to know how to truely kill a Vampire. In the world of the supernatural, Vampires have proved to be on an almost equal level of superiority as Angels and Demons.
Elves are basically human who have been living in connection with nature so long that the two have in a sense become one. Their race originated in the many forests of North America, mostly the East coast, hidden from industrialization of the regular humans. Through the years their ears became long and pointed so they could have a better sense of hearing in the woods, and they were eventually able to just touch anything and make things grow, such as flowers, vines, grass, and in some cases things as large as trees. It has only been recently that Elves have decided to show themselves in human society, but they'd much rather stay hidden away in the Woodlands.
Mages have been the ones to develop most recently. They came into existence during the time when people were immigrating from Europe to the colonies. Most of them were wiped out due to the witch trials, but a few survived and began to perfect their art. No, they are not like Witches that you read about where they can make something disappear in mid-air. They are more like element benders rather than what you would usually think of magic. They can control the elements of fire, ice, water, lightening, earth, darkness, and light. Mages are exactly like normal human beings with extra powers. Something that is odd of a supernatural race is that they age at the same rate as humans, putting them on the bottom of the food chain.
Now || We're || Together
It was only a matter of time before these species ended up running into each other. Some, like Angels and Demons, knew that the other existed all along, but others, like Vampires and Lycans, had no idea of the other's existence. That is why each species developed thinking that they were superior to all, and also the reason as to why fighting broke out when they discovered the fact that there were other outcasts. This war had no name and all records of it had been confiscated and brought to the first supernatural college establishment, which will be brought up shortly.
It was only expected that the strongest would come out on top. The originals of Angels and Demons, of course, along with the surprisingly survival of Shapeshifters. The leaders of these three came together and made an agreement, that if they were all outcasts they should at least stick together, rather than being power hungry. Thus, the Treaty of 1351, also unheard of by those without connections to the supernatural community.
This treaty stated that there were to be no more all out wars between the species and that they were to try their best to fit in with normal society, calling on the vampires for a few ideas. It was agreed that they should keep themselves hidden away and appear as if all of these special beings had simply died out over time. They would start by taking the remaining beings of each group and transporting to an island who's location was unknown except for the fact that is somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. With one last attack, this time combined, they wiped out the natives, claiming the lands for themselves.
They named this island Licentia Inslua, Latin for Freedom Island. Although the island only had enough room for one, large community, they still managed to keep themselves somewhat segregated, keeping their prejudices. The leaders, one from each species, were against this and did not want to see this happen. In an attempt to stop it, they had a high school and university built in order to integrate and teach future generations their hopes for the future and how to accomplish them.
Go || on || and || Restart
The first to be established was the high school, Decorus Eventus (Beautiful Outcast) Academy. Although it used to host grades K - 12, it now is only a high school taking Freshmen through Seniors. Over time the elders could not keep everyone there and people fled the island, so they didn't need a large school. They thought forcing their children to go to this school was preposterous and a good majority of the community rejected it. The community still continued to thrive off of supporters, however. Immediately the whole operation was changed around to be more effective. The island, after years and years of secrecy, was allowed to be discovered by the outside world when they began new trade and put in an airport where some of the citizens used to live, leading to the introduction of skilled humans into this area. Eventually, if anything they went under Japanese jurisdiction, but in reality they were still independent.
Only a few years after the high school was underway and in full swing, they decided they needed a place for the graduates of their island to go. Thus, in a matter of two years, Infinitus Vicis (Infinite Possibilities) University. The college was much more of a success than the high school. If anything, it made people return when they decided that the outside world was not good enough for their child or what he/she needed. Thus began the boarding school program. Although parents wanted good education for their children, they did not want to go back to the island. Therefore, both the high school and college were labeled as private, co-ed boarding schools.
An elementary school and middle school were never created on the island, even though with the help of the Elf and Mage population they managed to expand the island to include more for it's inhabitants during the last Elder Council. This was because they had no need for it and not enough teacher. During those beginning years of life a child's powers are still dormant, with a few exceptions of course, and did not begin to develop until the end of their middle school years. Not to mention the fact that the last Mage and Demon elders only had enough magic to enchant the high school and college so they would not rot away over time.
Now kids from all over the world of all different species attend the school. Although it's for gifted students only, that doesn't change the fact that it has just as much drama. He said she saids. Love triangles. Still even a few species prejudices here and there. It's all there, and happening now. Do you dare?
